Gala Success
Thank you to everyone who attended our Winter Wonderland Gala! We had a great turn-out and enjoyed delicious food and music from DJ PayMe!
Healthy Winter Tips
- Wash your hands: Winter germs and colds are rampant; make sure to stay sanitized to ensure your safety!
- Stay active: Even if it is cold out, staying active can keep away the winter blues! Take a walk to look at Christmas lights, or get in more steps walking with family!
From the Desk of the Executive Director, Jaime Steen
In light of the upcoming new year, there is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all that we are grateful for in our lives; however, it is also an opportune time to focus on all that we can do to improve our lives for the better.
Public Housing is intended to provide short-term aid for families until they are able to get on their feet. It is our goal, at the Housing Authority of Darlington, to assist families while we guide them towards becoming self-sufficient.
Self-sufficiency is just one way you can set an example for your children. Modeling self-sufficiency is a pathway for success not only for your children but also for your family for generations to come.
Let's make 2019 a year to remember... Happy New Year!
New Year... New Goals... New Success...
Money Saving Tips
- Stick to a budget: No matter how much money you have, make sure to spend responsibly to prevent stress and anxiety throughout the holidays!
- Cut back on extras: Skip on splurges like holiday treats or snacks to save your money!
- Get crafty: opt for handmade gifts like baked goods, handmade ornaments, or other crafts!
Stress Relieving Tips
- Remember the reason for the season: Don't forget that life does not have to be perfect. Don't let the holiday season get to you and prevent you from remembering what's most important!
- Spend time with family: Spending time with family is one of the best parts of holidays!
- Don't forget to take time to relax.
Important News
Please be on the lookout, in January, for signups regarding Breast Cancer screening! It is our hope that a mobile unit will be temporarily present on the Housing Authority property due to a grant from the SC Cancer Alliance Group. We are currently working out the details and should have
additional information soon.
Our annual "What Home Means to Me" poster contest is right around the corner! Please have your kids think about what home means to them, so they will be prepared to participate.
The Butterfly Effect mentoring program for girls will start at the end of January. The enrollment fee is $30.00, and spots are limited! Make sure you sign your daughters up by the deadline on 01/11/19. Please call the HAD office for additional information. It is a 12-week mentoring program
designed to focus on self-esteem while inspiring and promoting self-worth to support the development of life skills.
We believe it is equally important for the young boys in our community to have a mentoring program for them to also grow and mature in a positive way as they learn more about themselves and their lives. Please be patient as we find the right program for our precious young men.
