Rental Increase Requests
Owners/Landlords must notify the Housing Authority of Darlington and the tenant in writing, at a minimum of 60 days in advance, of your intent to increase the rent and the amount of the increase. The housing authority will process the rent increase request in accordance with the provisions outlined below. The rent cannot be increased during the initial 12 months of occupancy of the assisted unit. The requested amount must be rent reasonable according to market comparability and cannot be any more than an unassisted unit.
Rent Increase Requests must be submitted in writing and in accordance with the following applicable guidelines:
- Owners must submit a request for a rent increase at least 60 days prior to the effective date of the increase.
- If you receive an indirect subsidy from another government source (Department of Agriculture, Low Income Housing Tax Credit, etc.), please include your approved annual rent schedule.
- Special increases in rent may be considered based on increases in property taxes and/or property insurance supported by third-party documentation and evidence that the owners have submitted a protest of property tax increase to the applicable assessor's office and said the protest has been denied.
- If your apartment complex does not receive rental assistance from any other government entity, please submit a copy of your most current rent schedule for each unit size and type.
